Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, Reference Number 6300A-010
The third and final steel complicated wristwatch auctioned at Only Watch in 2019 was the Grandmaster Chime, model 6300A-010.
Patek Philippe launched the Grandmaster Chime in 2014 to commemorate the brand's 175th anniversary, and a white gold version was released in 2016, officially joining the existing collection. It is Patek Philippe's most complicated watch, boasting up to 20 complications, including five sound functions. These functions include a second time zone, day/night indicator, minute repeater, major and minor chimes, date and day display, manual leap year indicator, and many other complications, requiring considerable space to describe in detail.
What we see is a masterpiece unprecedented in watchmaking history, a work of exquisite craftsmanship and unparalleled technical skill. Unsurprisingly, Patek Philippe states that its production took approximately 100,000 hours. In its regular production, Patek Philippe's 5175R-001 model, launched in 2014, is crafted in rose gold, while the 6300 models, launched in 2016 and 2019, are made of white gold. For this unique timepiece created specifically for the Only Watch charity auction, Patek Philippe could have used a more precious material, such as diamonds, like other brands' latest releases, but ultimately chose stainless steel, continuing the brand's tradition of using stainless steel in its iconic watches.

Ultra-thin Single-Push-Seconds Chronograph Ref. 5950A
Another complication we cannot overlook is the split-seconds chronograph, the exquisite timepiece shown in the image being model 5950.
This watch debuted at Baselworld 2010. Its case shape, slightly more square than the classic round, echoes some of the brand's vintage models. Furthermore, the use of stainless steel and Breguet-style numerals on the dial further enhances its appeal.
Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Split-Seconds Chronograph Ref. 5004
Finally, we conclude this watch selection with another perpetual calendar timepiece, this time a watch featuring a split-seconds chronograph function.
The Ref. 5004, produced between 1994 and 2012, is an upgraded version of the Ref. 3970. The Ref. 3970 was Patek Philippe's first watch to switch from the classic Valjoux movement to the Lemania 2310 movement, considered one of the world's finest movements. The Ref. 5004 also uses the Lemania movement, but Patek Philippe made numerous adjustments to this movement to achieve the split-seconds function, a process extremely challenging. In fact, due to the immense technical difficulty, Patek Philippe produces only about 12 models per year, with a total production of approximately 200 pieces. These watches are crafted from materials such as yellow gold (most common), rose gold, platinum, and white gold (the rarest).
When Patek Philippe decides to discontinue a best-selling model, it typically releases a special edition watch as a commemorative gift. The newly launched 5004 watch features a stainless steel case and is limited to 50 pieces, available only at the Geneva Watch Fair.
Patek Philippe's decision to discontinue the stainless steel 5711 and replace it with the white gold 5811 clearly indicates the brand's future direction. It's highly likely that stainless steel will be used less frequently in sports watches in the future, limited to complicated models, especially unique limited or special editions.
Such a choice would be contradictory for any brand, but not for Patek Philippe. Its steel watches represent the pinnacle of the brand, possessing an understated yet timeless charm—in short, pure elegance.
